A story told by her son Melvin concerning the nature of Melvin and Julie's relationship is: Early one morning Julie was in the kitchen getting breakfast ready. Melvin's breakfast always consisted of one egg, one piece of toast, and a cup of tea. As Melvin Jr. tells it, Julie looked into the refrigerator and after some searching, stood straight up with a look of horror on her face. She apparently realized that she was out of eggs. Meanwhile, Melvin could be heard stirring in the beadroom. Melvin Jr. never saw Julie move so fast to throw on her housecoat and run to the corner market. Mere minutes passed as Julie returned with the required ingredients. As Melvin emerged from the room he lazily sat at the table as Julie slid a plate with hot eggs and one slice of toast onto the table. Melvin never knew the effort Julie went through to keep his daily routine intact.
