Notes

Shared Note
Teddy was a Sub Clerk in the Post Office from Oct. 1943 to Feb. 1946. He retired April 1, 1991 from the Trojan Yacht Company in Lancaster where he worked for 13 1/2 years as a maintenance man. They made big expensive boats from 20 ft. to 44 ft. They went out of business in 1991 and closed the plant. Teddy took up plumbing and went to Newton Trade School on G.I. Bill from 1953-58. He took and passed the Mass State plumbing license exam. He worked for the Crane Plumbing and Heating Co. in Cambridge, Mass. until 1962. Cold weather shut down all work and Teddy and his family packed up and moved to Lancaster, Penn. in Aug. 1962.

Teddy entered the US Navy on May 20, 1946 at 11:20 AM. He was set to Bainbridge, Md. for his boot training. After his six weeks of training, he was sent to Portland, Maine for the Battleship Missouri. He served aboard her until March 12, 1948. During that tour of duty, Teddy got to eat dinner with Margaret Truman. There is a picture of her eating dinner with the crew on page 113 of the book Battleship Missouri by Paul Stillwell. Upon discharge in 1948, Teddy enlisted in the Naval Reserves until he reinlisted on July 7, 1949. He was sent to the oiler Pawcatuck AO 108 in Norfolk, Va. until he married in 1951, when he was transferred to the Vulcan AR 5 in Newport, RI. He stayed there until he got out of the Navy on April 1, 1953.

In Sept. 1947 he went down to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to bring President Harry Truman home. In Nov. 1946 they went on a training exercise with the USS Little Rock and Flecher to see how far up into the Artic Circle and ice pack they could go. But on the night of Dec. 4 the Little Rock put a ster shell into the Flecher wounding four men and killing one. The one killed was a buddy of Teddy's and he had left him 5 minutes before it happened.

Teddy married Milly after 18 months and 3days of meeting her in Brad St. Bus and Rail Road Station. He was on his way to Washington, D.C. to visit his aunt and uncle. Mildred was going on a vacation to her auntLulu in Port Jervis, NY. She had broken up with her boyfriend and wanted to get away.

Oyster Point is near Lancaster. Teddy and Milly reside in Lancaster, PA ‏(1999)‏.
