Florence served in the WREN's ‏(Navy)‏ during WW II. Using DVA credits, she completed a B.A. degree at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario in 1947 and a B. Social Work at the University of Toronto in 1948. She worked for many years wit h the Children's Aid in Toronto and Vancouver prior to her retirement.

Norah Frood reports: "My father's youngest sister, Florence Evelyn, died on September 21, 1986 in Vancouver. Michael and I went out for the memorial service. Florence and Andy adored each other. Florence was happily drawn into Andy's family and found there the children and the grandchildren she'd never had. There was really no denial of the Cassidy family; we just did not play a major role in her day-to-day life in the later years."
