George spent his life as a Master Mariner in the B.C. coastal merchant shipping fleet. During WW II he served in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve ‏(RCNR)‏, primarily on the west coast.

The picture of George is from a postcard dated Feb. 11, 1941. It reads:

Dear Jane ‏[Cassidy]‏, This is a picture of your Uncle George in uniform. Isn't he a gorgeous looking "bird." Just like a peacock. He goes off on a boat which will be stationed outside of Vancouver.
