Joan attended the Needham Public School, graduating in 1951. In 1953, she graduated from The Chandler School for Women in Boston.

Joan worked as a Secretary for Fairfield & Ellis Insurance Co. inBoston, a Nursery School teacher, a bookeeper for the Town of Holliston, and a Grant Accountant at Wellesley College. While raising five children and working, she also went to Framingham State College where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree - English Major in 1985. Joan stopped work in 1996 and she and Larry moved to St. Petersburg, Fl. They live there in the winter and go to their cottage in Acton, Maine for the summer. ‏(2002)‏
