Allen's wife, Edythe, was born in Otter Creek, Bruce County, Ontario (near Walkerton) to Samuel Blake and Helen (MacKay) Freeman. She attended Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B. Sam Freeman was a miller of flour by trade. Edythe changed the spelling of her name from Edith to Edythe around the time she married in1911. She had two brothers: George Alexander b. Nov 28, 1888 and Douglas Elmer b. Apr 15, 1895. Helen MacKay, Edythe's mother, was born in Carrick Township, Bruce County. Helen's grandfather, Alexander MacKay (1816-1912) was a descendant of the Duke of Sutherland. Alexander left Scotland at age 14 and travelled around the world, finally settling in Southern Ontario in Carrick Township. He died in Walkerton, Ont. Brian Cassidy researched the Freeman family in January 2022 and reports the following:
I did a bit of digging into the Freeman family. Elmer is our railway man who would have had the ring that Dad inherited. Elmer died in 1958.

If Dad’s notes are right the family moves to Bouctouche in 1902
George moves away from home to Boston at some point but returns to marry a New Brunswicker. Edith marries and moves to Cassidy Lake in 1911
1911 Census - Bouctouche (just 3 in the home) Sam Freeman father (occupation miller) Helen mother Elmer (age 16 – occupation farmer)
Elmer marries Anna May Simpson 1916 (this is the Aunt Annie that iused to visit us) Occupation (from various sources) Railroad Engineer (Brakeman) CNR for 40 years Retired in 1954 Died in 1958 (heart issues)
Elmer and Annie had 2 daughters Margaret Merrit – born 1917 Hellen Patricia – born 1921
George married in 1912, died 1914. No record of children.
Sam died 1918. Buried in Bouctouche United (Methodist) Church cemetery. I have been unable to locate death info for Helen Freeman.
