Shared Note	Of the family of Jane Milligan, we know only that they were upper class land owners. From an obituary notice found in the Saint John library, we know that she was the youngest daughter and her father, James Milligan, was from County Donegal, Ireland and died prior to 1875. Jane died on January 7, 1875. Both she and her husband, William, are buried in the cemetery on the Cassidy farm at Cassidy Lake.
Note	Finding information about Jane Milligan has been difficult. Reviewing baptism material obtained around 2000 from a Donegal genealogy research group, we noticed entries we believe relate to Jane: 18 June 1819 - Robert, son to James and Catherine Millikin - The Port 24 May 1821 - Hugh, son to James and Catherine Milligan - The Port 2 Feb 1826 - Patrick, son to James and Catherine Milligan - The Port We can conclude from these entries that there were in fact Milligans living in The Port and the spelling may have been Millikin not Milligan. James and Catherine were not likely Jane's parents, but The Port was a small community of about 50 people so they were likely related.
Note	Were Jane's family really upper class land owners? We're skeptical of that claim. The Port was a small, poor fishing community, not big enough to be called even a village. Also, Jane was illiterate when she married William and they came to America. It was not until she was about 75 that she could write her own name. More research needs to be done on the Milligan family in The Port, Ireland.
