Shared Note: - Allen's wife, Edythe, was born in Otter Creek, Bruce County, Ontario (near Walkerton) to Samuel Blake and Helen (MacKay) Freeman. She attended Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B. Sam Freeman was a miller of flour by trade. Edythe changed the spelling of her name from Edith to Edythe around the time she married in1911. She had two brothers: George Alexander b. Nov 28, 1888 and Douglas Elmer b. Apr 15, 1895. Helen MacKay, Edythe's mother, was born in Carrick Township, Bruce County. Helen's grandfather, Alexander MacKay (1816-1912) was a descendant of the Duke of Sutherland. Alexander left Scotland at age 14 and travelled around the world, finally settling in Southern Ontario in Carrick Township. He died in Walkerton, Ont.
