Grant & Horne Shipyard was located on Courtney Bay, Saint John. The steamer War Moncton was constructed at the Grant & Horne Shipyard between September 1918 and May 1919, for the Imperial Munitions Board. Saint John City Directory 1919-20 lists Ruth A. Cassidy bookkeeper at Grant & Horne boarding at 146 Germain. Perhaps Ruth met her future husband at Grant & Horne where they both worked.

On the Record of Marriage, he is listed as a Cashier and she as a Bookkeeper. Both were Anglican. They were married by the Reverend Robert A. Armstrong at his home 92 Farnham Avenue, Toronto. Reverend Robert A. Armstrong was an Anglican minister. From ABT 1907 to 1924, he was in Saint John, New Brunswick at Trinity Anglican Church on Charlotte Street. It is likely that Ruth and/or Fred Ross met Rev. Armstrong in Saint John. The Reverend Canon Armstrong was the 3rd rector of the Church of the Redeemer, Bloor Street & Avenue Road, Toronto from 1926 to 1948.
