Henry Cassidy (1910-1988)

Henry Clarence Cassidy was a Harvard graduate and a very successful journalist. He was fluent in Russian and French and served as the Associated Press bureau chief in Moscow from 1940 to 1944. During that period he became Joseph Stalin’s first and most publicized pen pal. He also lived in the Maginot Line with the French Army until Paris fell in June 1940. He was made a Chevalier in the French Foreign Legion of Honor.
